  • Music Educator Invitation: Guest Conduct

    Invitation for Music Educators
    The Davidson College Choirs seek applicants for our 2024/2025 Distinguished Music Educator Conductor. You will conduct one piece in the fall and spring each. Receive rehearsal and concert footage, as well as free concert tickets for your guests and students. Should the music educator selected wish to be mentored to prepare for rehearsal and the concert, it will absolutely be made available.

  • Vespers Student/Child Soloist or Group

    Invitation for children/students in the Lake Norman and Charlotte areas (ages 6-18)
    The Davidson College annual Vespers Service is a time-honored tradition, steeped in stunning candlelight at the Davidson College Presbyterian Church. Audition to be the child or student soloist/group who holds the first lit candle while singing the first verse of 'Once in David's Royal City’ off book. The concert is Sunday, December 8, 2025 at 7:30 p.m. (dress rehearsal on Saturday AM). Families and loved ones will receive priority, reserved seats for the service, as we expect there to be standing room only since it is so well attended.

    To apply:

    Please make a video recording of the first verse of Once in David’s Royal City a cappella. The student may be memorized or using music for the recording. The PDF is available below. You may move up or down up to a whole step as necessary. Please email and/or share the video with Director Renata Berlin at reberlin@davidson.edu. Admitted on a rolling basis; this page will be updated once someone has been selected for 2024.

  • Paid Section Leaders for Community Chorus

    Invitation for Music Educators
    Become a section leader in our community chorus (Choral Arts Society of Davidson). Section leaders do not pay membership or music fees. Additionally, section leaders receive a $400 payment per semester. Responsibilities include attending most rehearsals and all four concerts, taking section attendance, and running one sectional per semester if needed. The choir rehearses Monday evenings September through early-December and again late-January through early-May. We are seeking two section leaders in 2024-2025.

  • Waived Membership Fees

    Invitation for Lake Norman and Charlotte area music educators

    Waived membership & music fees for music educators who sing in our community chorus (Choral Arts Society of Davidson).

    Choral Arts Society of Davidson (CASD) is a symphonic chorus open by audition to members of the Davidson College and wider communities. CASD performs both a cappella choral literature and choral orchestral masterworks. Recent performances have included: Bach’s Magnificat, Duruflé's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Mass in B Minor, Vaughan Williams's Dona Nobis Pacem and Serenade to Music, Haydn's Creation, Constant Lambert's Rio Grande, John Corigliano's Fern Hill, Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem, Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil, and Karl Jenkins's The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.     Rehearsals are held on Mondays from 6:30 - 8:00/30 p.m. from September through early December and mid-January through mid-April.

  • Student Scholars in Community Chorus

    Invitation for Lake Norman and Charlotte area high schoolers
    Become a student scholar in our community chorus (Choral Arts Society of Davidson); student scholars do not pay membership or music fees and earn a $100 payment per semester. Responsibilities include attending most rehearsals and all concerts and singing at a high level with focus and musicality. We are seeking between up to six student scholars for the 2024-2025 season in all voice parts.
